Monogramming is an art that we respect here at United Monograms. Sometimes people ask the question, why are those monogram initials not in the right order? These people clearly need a little lesson in monogramming etiquette. Since you know we love to monogram everything, here is the etiquette we go by when monogramming.

Ladies:

First Name, LAST NAME, Middle Name.

The reason why the last name traditionally goes in the middle is because the last name is mostĀ important and should stand out!
Example: Mary Rachel American, whose monogram would look like:

Married Ladies:
First Name, LAST NAME, Maiden name (or middle name if you prefer).

Generally when a woman is married, the middle name leaves her monogram and is replaced by her maiden name.
Example: Our friendĀ Mary Rachel American finds the love of her life, Bill Freedom, and they get married! Her new monogram would be:

Married Couples:

Bride’s First Name, LAST NAME, groom’s first name.
The reasoning for this one is easy, ladies first!
Since Mary & Bill Freedom are now happily married, their shared monogram would be:
